Edie Brickell

If you love music with a sound to it that is off the beaten path you will love listening to Edie Brickell. As a professional singer and songwriter since 1985 Edie has been the lead vocalist of several groups with a variety of success levels. The music her groups have performed spans the genres of Alternative Rock, Bluegrass, Folk Rock, Jangle Pop, Jam Rock, New Wave, Neo-Psychedlia and Pop Rock. You can easily hear the influence of each genre in song she signs and with the music that supports her vocal talents.

It was known early on that Edie would be a performer. Her parents supported her journey by allowing her to attend Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Dallas. Upon graduation Edie went on to Southern Methodist University where she studied until she joined a musical group and decided to focus her energies on singing and songwriting.

Her journey into the music industry began as an invitation to sing with a local folk rock group as they played at her high school. This invitation came while she was attending SMU and the group was the New Bohemians. Her performance was so captivating of the audience and the group she immediately became the lead singer.

Three years later, when the band was signed to their first recording contract, the label changed the name of the group to Edie Brickell & New Bohemians. They released their debut album in 1988, Shooting Rubberbands at the Stars, which became an instant success. In 1990 the band released their second album, Ghost of a Dog, which was a step away from the pop sound of their first record with a move into an eclectic personality presentation

Edie Brickell went on to even more success with a role in the movie Born on the Fourth of July as well as being the lead singer on many songs which were part of a variety of movies over the years. In 2010 Edie was a founding member of a new band, The Gaddabouts, and began touring with Steve Martin in 2013.

Edie’s life hasn’t all been about music, although it’s close. She married Paul Simon from Simon & Garfunkel after the two met during a performance on Saturday Night Live. The two have three children together and continue to support each other throughout their musical and performing careers.
